brevity might just be a virtue

Well, hello there. So I haven't stopped by in a week. I know, I know, I've been busy... sorta. Ok, fine, you're probably right, I am a bad friend. I only come around when it suits me, when I'm feeling needy, when I am grouchy & pessimistic, criticizing anything good within my life & in need of someone to bitch to. But part of you likes this, thrives off of it, & y'know that's true. If it weren't you would have sent me packing a long time 'go, but no, O no, you get something out of this, don't you? Does it feed your ego knowing that I will always come crawling back to you?
Well, whatever, just pour me a freakin' drink & leta me tell you about my week.

On Friday my girlfriend had a minor car accident on the Northwest Expressway on her way to work. Spun out on early morning ice, performed a few 360s, and ended up in the ditch on the other side of the road. Thankfully she wasn’t hurt beyond a bruise on her leg from attempting to force her car door open. But her Volvo, the Silver Bullet, is on its way to the big parts lot in the sky. To the Silver Bullet’s credit it was still trying its damnedest, seemingly only a bit bruised itself, but the gentle & honest folks at Small World Automotive are giving it a $1000 dollar medical bill & saying that even with that work it’ll only last a month or two more. Of course, all of us are distraught over this. Stay tuned for info on a wake party for the Silver Bullet if she is finally put down.

On Sunday a few friends that I haven’t seen in four years came into town for the record convention. One of these, Kerry, I met over a decade ago. It was a bit awkward at first, but after breakfast & the record convention, when we were playing frisbee in Sladen park, I realized how glad I was that they had come down. Also at the record convention I picked up two Camper Van Beethoven albums which I’ve been looking to acquire for some time now & which haven’t left my carousel since. If you aren’t aware of Camper Van Beethoven please follow my advice. Pay your respects & penance by vowing a week of celibacy & then go pick up an album.

Valentine’s Day: I took Aliza, who looked great in her new VDay skirt, to work that morning & then did some job hunting. Had band practice in the afternoon, & I must make mention of how impressive our new drummer is. Jared is certainly missed within the band, his dynamics & talent & personality, but Jeremy is proving that he can fill those shoes left by Jared, & his dedication is inspiring. After practice I went & picked Aliza up at the LCC downtown center where she attends a Spanish class & she & I went to have a sappily romantic evening, exchanging gifts in the outside garden of Espresso Roma & gazing longingly into each other’s eyes. She was impressed with her gift, a 3”x5.5” comic, with hand made drawings & schmaltzy storyline, presented in a handcrafted case, & I threw the beautiful pillowcases she made me on that night, reading the valentine’s card that accompanied it over & again. I’m sorry, go ahead & slap me.

In retrospect it feels like the rest of the week was just a long preparation for Thursday night, when enjoy your fall... played a show in Portland with Swaim Basement & Digital Knife. Though we had all but lost our zeal for playing after a two hour drive up there & then sitting in the bar for threeplus hours until we were able to play, knowing the whole time we’d all have to drive back that night, it was still nice to have the opportunity to put on a show in Portland, especially since all our good PDX friends showed up. It made for a hell of a long night & I’m feeling it now.

Also done some recording & updating of both the enjoy your fall... & Diets for Giants webapge.

OK, that’s it, I’m done. Well, uh, so then... uhmm, how was your week?
